Bedrooms
Our 24 single en suite bedrooms include a toilet, shower and wash hand basin. Each room includes a wall-mounted TV, wardrobe, chest of drawers and bedside locker. Our residents can lock their room and if desired can be provided with a personal safe.
We also have 9 twin en suite rooms, which many people enjoy as they mean constant companionship.
Laundry
Our laundry service is located in our extensive basement area and we have a full-time laundry staff on site which ensures a quick turnaround, when compared to many homes that send their laundry out.
Pastoral & Spiritual Care
We are very keen that our residents’ spiritual needs are fully met.
St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Christ Church are centrally located in the town, minutes away. The mass is also broadcast every morning on TV in the TV room and once a month a local priest comes in to say mass in person.
The oratory, located opposite the dining room, features beautiful hand-crafted wooden furniture and stained-glass windows and residents use this room throughout the day.
A local priest is always available for those in palliative care.
Food & Nutritional Care
We work with each resident and their family to create a dedicated food plan for each resident, taking into account their likes and dislikes, as well as their dietary and nutritional needs.
What People Say
“I like the food, having a room to myself and love the company. I go walking every day and enjoy painting and colouring as I used to work as a weaver.”
Nora May, resident of Teach Altra Nursing Home
“My dad was really happy in Teach Altra and enjoyed his stay. We found the care excellent. We always find him very happy when he comes home, and his mobility improves while there”.
Honora Kelleher, daughter of Teach Altra Nursing Home resident
“I was delighted with the care my mother received and she settled very well. The care staff are 'really excellent' and 'very kind' . Mam would be happy to go there for respite again. As a family member I never felt so welcome in a nursing home setting."
Mary Murphy, daughter of Teach Altra Nursing Home resident

Jonah and Ava organise events every day so there is always something going on. The calendar is always on view in our dedicated activities room and includes a focus on music, outings, BBQs, arts and crafts.
Participating in activities isn’t mandatory, but we do encourage residents to take part as it builds their social connectivity within the home and strengthens bonds between residents and staff. Social connectivity is a strong barometer of how well people do both inside and outside a nursing homes environment.
We encourage all residents, even short and respite stay, to make a piece for their room, which acts as a memento of their time with us.
Local Area & Community Integration
Newmarket is a small, rural town in North County Cork. It is situated in the Barony of Duhallow, an area that is located on the borders of counties Kerry and Limerick, and is bounded on the south by the Boggeragh Mountains.
The main towns in Duhallow are Newmarket, Kanturk and Millstreet, with smaller villages such as Ballydesmond, Banteer, Lyre, Kilcorney, Nadd, Ballydaly, Boherbue, Castlemagner, Cullen, Kiskeam, Kilbrin, Knocknagree, Lismire, Meelin, Freemount, Rockchapel, Tullylease and Rathcoole.
While most of our residents hail from this area, we are also pleased to welcome residents from further afield.
Local amenities include two golf courses locally, a donkey sanctuary and the IRD Duhallow, which includes a café/restaurant that we visit often and which also provides FETAC work experience opportunities for our residents.
We are very pleased to be highly integrated into our local community and are keen to work with local suppliers wherever possible.
