About Esker Rí Nursing Home

Eske Rí Nursing Home was purpose-built to accommodate 143 residents in a modern facility geared towards nursing people back to health or providing respite or palliative care. We have a really wide range of facilities that are designed to breathe life into our philosophy that the best results are achieved when people are socially connected and have all their day to day and medical needs met so that they are comfortable and well catered for.

In particular, our two courtyard gardens offer our residents a chance to enjoy fresh air in a sheltered space while attending to our gardens.

“Esker Rí Nursing Home is a lovely place. It would remind you of a high class hotel when you come into it, it's not like a nursing home that way. It's bright and airy and cheerful and so are the staff working there.

Family of Angela, resident of Esker Rí Nursing Home.

We place a huge emphasis on our Activities, because we know that being socially connected has a major impact on how our residents age. Participating in activities isn’t mandatory, but we do encourage residents to take part as it builds their social connectivity within the home and strengthens bonds between residents and staff. Social connectivity is a strong barometer of how well people do both inside and outside a nursing homes environment.

We have 2 full-time activities coordinators who provide options for our residents to participate in a wide rage of events and activities. This works very well as they have two very different personalities and in this way they appeal to both the introvert and the extroverts amongst our residents and tailor their approach accordingly.

We organise events every day so there is always something going on. The calendar is always on view in our dedicated activities room and includes a focus on music, outings, BBQs, arts and crafts.

Bedrooms

Our 119 single en suite bedrooms include a toilet, shower and wash hand basin. Each room includes a wall-mounted TV, wifi, wardrobe, chest of drawers and bedside locker. Our residents can lock their room and if desired can be provided with a personal safe.

We also have 12 twin en suite rooms, which many people enjoy as they mean constant companionship.

Each bedroom is a blank canvas for our residents – a place they can personalise with their favourite armchair, cushions, photographs and family bits and pieces.

Outdoor Space & Parking

Residents have full access to an outside garden area with patio furniture and pleasant plants, flowers and walking path. There are also two courtyards which offer nice sheltered areas with seating and planters.

Short stay car parking spaces are available for visitors in the nursing home grounds. Long stay parking places are also available.

Pastoral & Spiritual Care

Esker Rí Nursing Home respects all religious denominations and caters for their spiritual needs.

Our ethos and philosophy reflect our care and concern for the holistic person.

We therefore see our care embracing the physical, social and spiritual aspect of each person.

Roman Catholic Church

Roman Catholic mass is celebrated every 2nd Thursday in the nursing home for those that wish to attend. Mass is also broadcast each day, where it is streamed from residents’ local churches to the smart T.V.

Church of Ireland

The Church of Ireland service takes place monthly.

The local Church of Ireland Rector is available to meet the needs of any members of the Church of Ireland

Other Faiths

We are open to any requests made by our residents to facilitate their particular religious/spiritual needs.

Participation in any of these events / activities is a personal choice.

Every effort is made to accommodate the religious/spiritual needs of our residents.

Food & Nutritional Care

Our chefs and catering staff are dedicated to serving healthy, balanced, nutritious, attractive, and appetising food.

We work with each resident and their family to create a dedicated food plan for each resident, taking into account their likes and dislikes, as well as their dietary and nutritional needs.

Meals are served daily in our dining room or, if a resident so wishes, in his or her bedroom and residents can choose from varied daily menus.

All meals are prepared and cooked by qualified chefs and trained catering staff in accordance with strict food safety, in a modern, well-equipped kitchen and food preparation area.

Special diets and dietary requirements are catered for on an individual basis.

Snacks, tea, and coffee are available to residents at any time.

Local Area & Community Integration

Esker Rí Nursing Home is located just 3 km outside Clara Village in County Offaly and 10 km from Tullamore, the County town of Offaly.

Clara was established by the Quaker community in the mid-18th Century and is located on the Esker Riada, the ancient thoroughfare connecting the east and west of Ireland and from which Esker Rí takes its name.

Clara’s local services include churches, schools, a branch of the Laois & Offaly Education and Training Board, a library, doctor’s surgery, medical centre, pharmacies, health centre, family resource centre, shops, post office, credit union, hair and beauty salons, barbers, garages, pubs, eateries, a playground, public swimming pool, pitch and putt club, GAA club, and the Clara Bog Visitor Centre. There is a Garda (police) station and fire station in the town, while the Midland Regional Hospital is in Tullamore.

We believe strongly in staying connected to our local community and we bring our residents on regular outings as part of that. We also have links with local men’s sheds, community centres and day services in the community.
