Our People & Culture
Our residents come from all over the world. So do our staff. And honestly, we think that makes us a better place to live and work.
Across our homes, we care for residents who speak Romanian, Russian, Latvian, Polish, Ukrainian, Hindi, German, English and more. Some do not speak at all, and we have yet to meet a communication challenge our teams couldn’t find a way around.
Where There’s a Will There’s a Way!
Translation apps, cue cards, visual aids, translated care plans, our teams have built up quite the toolkit. One resident living with aphasia after a stroke communicates through carefully prepared translated materials for every interaction of daily life. Their family brought in a USB stick loaded with home-country television. Small thing. Huge difference.
In another home, a resident has lived with us for over six years, language barrier and all. They are thriving. It turns out that kindness, patience and a familiar face translate into every language without any app required.
“When residents feel genuinely cared for, respected, and valued, communication goes beyond language. The atmosphere, energy, and sense of belonging become far more impactful than words alone”.
— Olga, PIC Esker Rí Nursing Home, Evergreen Care Group
Food, Films & Feeling at Home
Our chefs incorporate traditional dishes where they can. Our activity teams organise multicultural days. Residents have access to home-country television, native-language radio and films in their own language. Because there is something about hearing your own language — even from a screen — that settles the soul in a way nothing else quite does.
We also make sure the practical side is covered. Key documents including complaint forms are translated so that every resident has equal access to their rights, regardless of the language they think in.
Ready Before You Arrive
What we are most proud of is that none of this feels like a special effort to our teams anymore. It is just how things are done. Whoever comes through our doors, from wherever they have come, should find a home that was already ready for them.
That is the standard we hold ourselves to. Our residents, in all their wonderful variety, are exactly why it matters.
